The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao
by Junot Díaz
2009 is One Book for Greater Hartford’s eighth year to gather the community around a work of contemporary fiction. With this year's selection, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, we explore the duality of the immigrant experience. Author Junot Díaz immerses us in the tumultuous life of Oscar and the history of the family at large, rendering with humor and insight the Dominican-American experience, and, ultimately, the endless human capacity to persevere in the face of heartbreak and loss.
